Transaction Theory of Life: A Theory on Gives & Takes in Life

For quite many years I have believed (or so my brother and Deepak Chopra's book "Seven Spiritual Laws of Success" have made me believe) that whenever you do a good thing for somebody or even think good about anybody that comes back to you as good wishes/deed from others. However, the relationship between these two i.e. good wish/deed for others, and a good wish/deed from others may not be always straight and linear. That is, if I did a good thing for X or wished good for X, X may not always return me the gesture with a good deed/wish towards me.... but well, another person,Y, may return me that unexpectedly. So good things/wishes may come back to you from any quarter or corner - the rate of return is some times more and some times less compared to our good wishes/deeds. The same is true for bad deeds/wishes. Some are of the view that rate of return in this second case is higher than what we wished for or did -- may or may not be true. It's probably difficult to pract...

Mundane Miracles

Life has many interesting twists and turns, where you come across myriad people and events. Out of these myriad events and people there are few who leave their foot prints deep within - I call them as my 'Mundane Miracles'. These miracles emerge out of the ordinary people and forgottable events, but within their ordinary demeanour a specialty is hidden which makes them special and unforgottable. How else do you describe that ricksawpuller for whom Rs.5 might mean a lot, but who politely offers to give it up because I got down a few yards before my destination !!!! ...... Or that small paan (betel) shop owner who offered me his wife's only pair of sandals as my sandal broke on the way of my return to the hostel after finishing some work outside the hostel campus late evening. Not only that, he offered to repair my sandals the next morning by the nearby mochi and suggested me to collect it from him anytime during the next day at my convenience from his paan shop !!!! Sure en...

STRAY THOUGHTS: The Amway & Modicare Way of Oriya Lives

The other day a gentleman came calling on me at my residence in Bhubaneswar. I was a bit surprised. He, a bank officer, was an old student in my computer training institute long back. My interaction with him was not very much even during his studentship, not to mention of the period after that. After some initial introductory gestures, he started finding out how I was doing and suggested me I must be a member of Amway, the greatest networking giant in the world. The reason – it gives me an income opportunity, the products are very good (though prices are exorbitantly high to fit any common man’s consumer good set), and opens up numerous possibilities to create a lot of friends. For the first proposition, all that I have to do is to market Amway’s products starting from face creams to nutritive foods to medicines. I can do the marketing myself, induce more people to join under me to do the marketing, they in turn induce many more under their fold to market the products and so on – e...
